Which filmmakers first got you interested in movies?

Zooey Deschanel: Growing up, we would watch Hitchcock and Kubrick and all kinds of great filmmakers. But Kubrick was a filmmaker that we would focus on. I love the visual worlds that Kubrick creates with his movies.

Did coming from a filmmaking family change how you view film and TV?

Deschanel: I learned that storytelling is such a core part of being a human. And movies and TV are the most immersive way to experience storytelling. They help us understand our lives better.

What’s your favorite winter movie-watching tradition?

Deschanel: I love watching movies while wrapping presents. It takes so long sometimes that I can watch three movies while I mindlessly wrap.

What’s your wildest dream holiday present?

Deschanel: I would love to be gifted an invisibility cloak. If you want to send me one, I would totally take it. That feels very exciting to me.

You have many different talents. What’s one that people wouldn’t expect?

Deschanel: I could definitely watch TV all day. That’s my hidden talent. I love watching TV now as opposed to how it used to be because I can really deep dive. I get obsessive.
